Mikey777 has a set of Trixon/Vox drums listed in the For Sale section. A drummer I know in Southern Illinois has had a Trixon set since the mid 60's (still owns them). Thought you all might like to get a good look at these very unusual drums from Germany....and this photo was taken around 1968. He's going to do a rehab on them soon too:

Nice Set, jim.

I own the same set, a 1965 Trixon Telstar with the conical drums.

Mine is in WMP. Funny thing, here in the US, there are tons of sets in WMP. I'm told, tho that the Trixon Telstars didnt make many in WMP and mine are rarity for that reason.

Mine are in good shape, just need a good cleaning and polishing after the Holidays.

There is a really old Elvis Costello album where Pete Thomas is playing a set of those on the back cover...

Retro, you snare appears to be in superb condition. If the rest of the kit is that nice, why wait until after the holidays! Also, thanks for the info which I will pass along to the owner in Illinois.

Thanks Jim!!

Yes, the rest of my set is in very good condition. Its all complete and original except for the 16 inch front bass hoop. (on Trixon Telstars, the front hoop is a just a standard 16 metal hoop like on a floor tom, its not like a wood hoop with the inlay)

Its just a matter of me finding the time to start taking each drum apart and giving it a super good cleaning and polishing. There are alot of little doodads on Trixon drums and its a project.

The only issue with my drums (and its not really an issue) is that the WMP wrap has faded, luckily with Trixons, it doesnt turn yellow. Rather, it fades to a geenish gray. Its not bad at all.

That said, I'd still like to "Brighten" up the wrap while I have the metal parts off the shells. I've been researching and so far, there doesnt seem to be much I can do other than a deep cleaning and polishing with Maguires. I'm thinking tho, that some car finish products might be the way to go.

I don't think there would have been any direct prohibition against W.M.P. Telstars. Trixon had a very extensive range of wraps ,when compared to other companies-----in excess of 30 choices, so you see quite an array of patterns. It seems, though, that as the 60,s wore on ,there was increasing use of the glitzy wraps, the Crocos,in particular, purple sparkle, yellow gold ,the Moires and these showed up on the fancy models, more often. Pearls were more sedate and associated with the Big Band era, especially W.M.P. and were losing favour until Buddy Rich showed up at Trixon. It would have made sense for there to have been a big promotion associated with his endorsement. Perhaps there was a big flush of W.M.P. around 1967 and relatively more of them were ordered by importers on all the models.I've even seen a W.M.P. Speedfire kit(would have been late '60,s),as well and that is really odd because after the teardrop era ,almost all of those were Crocos and Sparkles.

I had just a WMP Speedfire BD long ago.......had a calf back head on it...and the divider board still..

I was having problems with the lugs, and found out that Leedy beavertail lugs fit the same holes,so I put those on there..

Then,sold the BD...years later,saw it on Feebay.
