So,after doing a more careful analysis of the solid Sonor shell in the recent post, I take a closer look at the 1956 Trixon shell that looks like a solid one as well and it appears to be built exactly the same way, like a two layer jellyroll.
I don't think Trixon catalogued a solid shell drum. All the others I have seen,even from the same production year have been 3 ply European Beech with 2 extra plys in the rerings and reinforcing panels. Trixon made very elaborate shells. All glued in supports are carefully chamfered and all is varnished.
The first pic is the interior of a typical pre-1964 Trixon snare drum showing the re-rings and the seam reinforcement. Grain is vertical in the interior ply as it is in the exterior one.
The following pics are from a stripped solid shell.The interior and exterior grain follow the circumference of the drum. The last pic clearly(maybe clearly isn't the correct word) shows a small area of separation between the two layers.
