Trixon Snare Wires?

Loading...

I've found a 1965 14 x 13 x 5 Trixon snare that's missing the snare wires. Is this any big deal? Any reason 13" Puresounds won't work? I'm suspicious that they don't just put wires on it and ask a little bit more. It's also missing a tension rod. Again, any cause for concern?

Any info is greatly appreciated.

Trixon always used wires, that went right across the head and through the gates. This was for the parallel drop system as well as the much less common gravity drop system. The wires are the same on both and require unique wires. Many Trixon players have adapted commonly available wires to the system by attaching snare cords to the original mechanism. This can work but clearly doesn't optimize the capability of the drum. You lose about 1 1/2" of the head. If that is a drum with the blocky ,ribbed lugs , it originally had 26 strand wires. I have the parts to make a set of those up ---basically N.O.S. Trixon wires : if you want, P.M. me.

You mean like this! They should look like these... but as calfskin mentioned, they are almost always missing. This is my 1967 1/440 w/parallel in WMP. Nice playing/sounding drum!

Thanks for the reply Tommy. Yes, I think that's what it supposed to look like. Calfskin pointed out that the drum in question was missing a lot more than the wires, so I'll have to pass. Cool pics of your drum though.

Best.
