TRIXON Set

HY Guys

i got this TRIXON Set from the 50s with a Deri Floortom for about 100 Euro. It´s in quite a good state. Maybe some of you can tell me the name of that series from Trixon.

Konfiguration is

24" Bassdrum

13" Racktom

16" Floortom wich is a Deri shell but Trixon hardware on it.

Sorry for the bad pics, i did not take pics when i got it:-)

I am searching for a holder for the bassdrumleg like it is pictured in the first pic. Maybe some of you have one lying around. I only would need the lug, all the screws and inserts are there!

Thxs

Your bass drum dates from 1956 or before and your tenor tom dates from after 1956, based on the hoop. It is possible for the two to have originally been a pair because stranger things have occurred out of most drum factories. Given though, that you also received an orphaned Deri floor tom; it's likely that the the 3 drums were brought together into a kit.

I'm not aware of a catalogued kit with the 600mm bass drum but perhaps there was one very early on.

Your spur mount is a very tricky item to find. They either show up on the drum or not at all. An option is to adapt a lug, which is what they were anyway.

There are two odd things about the bass drum. The spur mount should have had a plastic gasket under it( usually black) unless it is a very early 50's drum. In looking at it closely , the shell does not appear to be Trixon although the fittings and mount of them looks accurate. The shell wood is very dark and there is no re-ring. What is that partial fitting down low on the right side? That is not Trixon.

Hy Calfskin

THXS for your help, but i have to correct you.

The bassdrum has re-rings, you just can not see it at the pics;-), the Racktom is made in 1962 there is a stamp in it and Ingo Winterberg in Germany told me how to read them.

Bassdrum is probably early 50s so is his guess. Floortom is Deri, thats right, i will soon post pics of the restored set.

By the way, it sounds awesome:-)

Hi Christian,

the bass drum is approx '51-'53 and has the second bass drum lug for the cymbal holder and this is cataloged in the early 50's magazine and is a rare drum with the early trixon badge..

A good catch mate and as calfskin said were probably brought together and used as a kit back in the day..

Funny but my early trixon also had a Deri floor tom when i bought it!!

Would be great to see the pictures once you have finished it...

Most Trixon bass drums had a strap muffler ( often called a Pratt muffler in the U.S.). , except very early on. Yours doesn't seem to , which lends weight to the early 50's origin. The blue clef badge was replaced by the flying vibraphone badge in 1956 or thereabouts. Trixon 4 major eras of design. Before 1951,51-56,56-63 and 63 to the end. It's easy to date a drum into one of those blocks but refining it further requires some finer details of design; i.e. the earliest drums had cast aluminum lugs( before 1951).

I'm sure they do sound fine. The early Trixon drums with calfskin heads are a thing of beauty and they adapt well to quality plastic heads to.

Are you looking for a snare? W.M.P. was a pretty popular wrap, so the snares show up on ebay fairly regularly.

@calfskin

There is a muffler in the bassdrum, it has a knob with the TRixon sign on it, i don`t know if you mean this thing:-) I would date with all your infos to the 51´56` era.

The lugs on the bassdrum are differnt to the ones on the racktom, they are not chromed, i am not sure what they are exactly.

I still have the original calfskinheads and both are like new:-)

Yes i would look for a snare and maybe a original Trixon Floortom in WMP, i`ll see;-)

Here some pics for you guys:-)

Great kit, Christian!

The cymbal arm is extremely cool - although maybe not convenient for transportation ?!

Nice set that you got. I just got a Roxy set of drums in the other day.I will be parting out the set the shells all have been in water. On the bass drum it has two set's of spur's mount's and they are just like the Trixon the one you are looking for.So i take it the Roxy and Trixon drums are made by the same company?
