Transition Ludwig - ???Interesting Factory Paint???

So last week I decided to go out pawnshopping and stumbled upon a KILLER deal on two vintage snares and a couple of Zildjians (a modern 17" A medium crash and a 70's hollow logo 19" medium ride). I'm very excited about the snares. One is a 1961 Slingerland Radio King in the blue/silver Duco WITH ORIGINAL CASE AND STAND!

The other one is a transition badge Ludwig 5"x14, mahogany inner ply with reinforcement rings, plated brass hoops (I'm assuming Jazz Festival) with an interesting paint job. Maybe custom order? Anybody ever seen one like this?

It is interesting, but it is not factory. It's still a transition badge J-fest and it's value is intrinsic. The Slingy is a beautiful, clean drum. Nice score all around.

nice find, I think it might of been Blue lacquer originally and they added the black and silver strip, just because the badge looks like it wasn't removed. Sharp and clever. I am just thinking out load ( did they even have Blue lacquer in 59?)

Maybe I've not noticed this before, but were the transition badges normally that big? It almost looks like a late Chicago badge in size.

Mystery solved then! If Ludwig had that blue lacquer base, then all they'd have to do to customize it is to add the black and silver stripes. There's not much that the guys in this forum can't sus out if it's about drums. I love this community. I've been a member since Christ left Chicago and still I learn something new every time I come here. It really is amazing.
