Hello,
I just picked up a nice Stewart 3 piece kit today (13"/16"/20") in Red Sparkle. No re-rings with painted gray interiors.
I already have a Red Sparkle MIJ, but I couldn't pass up the nice price on these. I think that I will re-wrap them. Here is my main question:
What, in your opinions, are the classic or traditional MIJ wrap colors?
I know that both red and blue sparkle were popular, as well as WMP and BDP. I want to re-wrap it so it will stay true to it's MIJ roots.
I already have a Blue Onyx, BDP, WMP and Red Sparkle wrapped MIJ kits, so I don't want to repeat any of those. I know that Blue Sparkle is an obvious choice, but since I have a Blue (Onyx) already, what suggestions would you have?
I was initially thinking Green Sparkle, but I can't remember seeing any Green Sparkle MIJ's. What about Gold or Orange Sparkle?
Also, a few secondary questions:
1. How easy is the wrap to take off of vintage MIJ shells? I have never taken wrap off these type of shells before. Any tricks (besides the hair dryer trick)?
2. I really wish this kit had a 22" instead of a 20" bass drum. Does anyone have a 22" Stewart (or identical lug MIJ) that they would want to sell or trade? Color is not important, as I'll be re-wrapping anyway. I can post a picture if you like.
Thanks for your opinons and advice.
V
