Traded an old mixer for this kit.

I guess it's been wrapped in some kinda vinyl, and there are no badges or markings in the shells. Nothing fancy, but it's got some cool hardware quirks and the sound is very cool!

I can take more if it would help. It's a 5-piece, came with a cheap hi-hat, bass pedal and snare stand. The snare is missing a few pieces (I'll get it going just to hear it, but it's headed to the closet anyway).

Any ideas about the age and origin?

Steady - MIJ kit. Vertical grain Luan. With good edges, they can make for some nice sounding drums. Mixer for a 5 pc. Not bad at all. Clean em up and wail away!

Too many great drums to list here!

I may be new around here, but I know one thing: everybody likes more pictures!

Luan, eh? Thanks Purdie, and yes it was definitely a good day for bartering! I've never owned any old instruments, it has so much personality.

I like the wrap. Looks like they were 'knocking-off' a Ludwig 'Panther' finish. BTW, the floor tom is upside down, reverse the legs.

In Australia, the kit was branded as a "Maxwin", by Pearl during the 1970s..

the finish was Naugahyde

Cheers

Most likely made in Taiwan mid-70's Pearl stencils.I recently owned a white version of that same wrap.Sold them to a student after a spur upgrade and Aquarian Studio-X coated batter heads.Very acceptable sound.

I see some Pearl Maxwins that look like they fit the bill. Thanks for the info, folks!

Ha yeah, I figured a kid was playing that floor tom or they flipped it for storage. I don't think they've seen much use over the years. I like the wrap, too. Coming from a long line of black drums that all look the same, it's a nice change of pace!

@teverson-you ever have any trouble with those strange ball-and-socket tom mounts? I'm not a heavy drummer but they're so little!

I have seen the post snap just below the ball. But the toms are fairly light, so if it's held together this long.. should hold up ok.
