Torodor Snare Drum

Loading...

Time again to share one of the snare drums that have passed through my collection over the years. All original except for heads and wires. It's a 5.5 x 14 6-lug. You gotta love the Gretsch-style lugs and hoops with the Slingerland Clamshell (Super) strainer knockoffs! And, they worked, too!

Brings back memories. My first drum set was a blue sparkle Torodor snare/tom/bass with a mounted cymbal. I think it was 1971 from a small Chicago catalog house called Mostow. Do you know who made them?

I still have my first kit which was a TorODor. I got it used in 1976 from my sister's boyfriend at the time.

My snare is a metal 8 lug version with triple flange hoops and is pretty decent. I had it set up on one of my kids until just recently.

I needed some replacement parts for the tom mount/arm a few years ago and picked up a TorODor bass drum off of ebay. I found Pearl stamped inside one of the bass lugs. I don't know if they made of all ofthe TorODor kits, but they made for a while at least.

I can't honestly say who made Torodor, but... there were only a few makers of drums in the 60's. My snare drum did not look like any of the other Torodor kits of the time. Those Gretsch-style lugs, die-cast hoops and Clam-shell style strainer certainly were not the norm for the time period!
