Orange County Drums and Percussion just displayed a new set with them. They certainly aren't common, but they may be staging a comeback. In the meantime, I think some of the marching band percussion utilizes "timp toms". Some of the DW drums that Terry Bozzio plays on his huge kit are single-sided. And Roto Toms! (Do they still make them?)

Yes, Indeed.

However, the whomping 16 and 18" are no longer available.

Roger Taylor was sporting a set on the Queen / Paul Rodgers tour.

I'll sometimes drop a 6 or a 10" in the kit like a cowbell or block,

and when the mood strikes, "pop, pop, pop".

Pretty Cool.

Man, I gotta say...just IMHO...I really hate concert toms on a trap set. the sound is just too one dimensional. You don't get any bounceback, decay, or depth to the tone.....
