Yes i have done many, many Toms into snare drums over the years..I have used shells that were M.I.J. also Ludwig,Rogers, ete shells..If you are nor going to cut the shells down then its a easy drum to make you just need to add a snare bed and snare strainer and butt plate.. If you dont have the bottom snare rim you can make it yourself just drill two holes on each side of the rim...The only thing i would NOT make a snare out of is a M.I.J. 3 ply thin shell drum with or with-out rings the shells will not hold up to how tight you do the heads..But you can alqays used BIg washers on the lugs on the inside of the shell..Mikey
Toms into snares...?
Is there a fair chance of destroying the shells that way?
Hmm....well, we shall see!
I'll post before and after pictures of my tom, and we can see how 'bowed out' it gets, so to speak, hahaha....

[QUOTE=green glass drum;155336]I did the tom snare conversion. I felt hesitant about it at first, but I did it anyway. I could have cut it in half and made 2 snares with a re-wrap and hole filling. But I like naked shells. Also I had this size tom in my kit already.
They are fun and make deep tone. Less lugs more funky/swampy.
However, since they are so tall, it makes it hard to use them on a gig.
You need a really low/cut off snare stand. I sit low and the kit is low.
I think 6 1/2 " is my limit now.
Lets see pics of the shells to be used. Inside shots please.
Any drum build is FUN.
