Thoughts on this snare...
70's Pearl Fiberglass Ivory
artist models usually sale in the $250.00 + range. also this is a 5 ply model not as collectible as the 3 ply just like Ludwig's 3 ply versus 6 ply anomaly
You've got one life. It's close in range to a fair price. Just buy the damn thing and enjoy it. If you have a passion in life, don't let a hundred bucks stop you from enjoying it.
When did the Artist go from a solid shell 10 lug to a ply shell 8 lug?
That's a nice one. Looks nice and clean too. Good luck with the purchase~! I like how the seller adapted those lock clips to the snare straps. Smart thinking and makes it easy to get at the bottom head without having to re center the snares and whatnot.
Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.

The artist model changed over time to various different configurations.
You could at one time get it in a steam bent and metal NOB shell.
This was the first use of the term Black Beauty, which was what Slingerland called the finish on the Artist NOB shelled drum in the 28 (first) Slingerland drum and banjo company catalog.
Ludwig didn't use (steal) the term black beauty till the mid 30's
The Artist model changed over the years ,to a ply, then solid then back to ply and at one time was availabe with 8 or ten lugs as an option.

Thanks Steve. I didn't know that. Interesting how it evolved over the years. Cool snares.

Well said Rik!
Very proud owner of a new Blaemire Snare 6.5 x 14 made by Jerry Jenkins "Drumjinx"
I had a new Slingerland 5-ply kit many years ago. The worst edges ever! Slingerland just didn't know how to cut level edges on these 5-ply shells. Under warranty, Slingerland sent me a complete set of new shells, minus hardware. I had to change everything over to the new shells.
If you do get this snare, be critical of the edges. If they need to be cleaned up and leveled, do it! The edges on the 5-ply shells are very sharp and prone to buzzing if not totally level. Just my :2Cents: on the subject!

I love what Rik said and we are all enablers it seems around here :D
yolo = you only live once
Pull the trigger or wait for something similar to come along, there is
usually a next time it seems with some of this stuff. I think there is
plenty left to go around but the prices might not get any cheaper than
they are right now?
