Thanks Jon, I was wondering what prep was needed for these. Since they came without any lugs do I try to find simular lugs that are on my 2 Toms for them or just buy new lugs all around or get any lugs I can find that work and just put it together? This set is for my nieces (2) and nephew (1) for X-Mas.That is, if I can get it all done by then ;-)
Let Mikey source them for you. He has more than all the rest of parts guys combined....and we love him for it! I would just go back with the soundking ones. You should be able to get them back together by Thanksgiving.
Head selection is going to be the hard part. These old drums are tough to head up if you have never done them. For the bass, an EQ1 (BD22GB1-C) this is a coated head, but opaque I guess. The toms are the hard part. A good single ply, and you will need to replace all the mufflers that are missing. Tone control can be a bear, but if you lacquer them, they tame down a bit. I personally do not like Remo heads on these shells, but that is my own opinion....and we all have one or three of those. The Evans dry Genera work OK for this shell sometimes as well. But I found these Remo Encore heads, NOS from the 90s, Taiwanese made and they sound soo good.
I have a 6 lug snare that will be ready in a few days. Before you say yes or no, let me tell you, I do sell them for a little more than ebay money, but I work my magic on them first. This one will have new heads (Aquarin Z-100 batter/some white res) and snares, completely detailed by the maestro...I know I am the biggest pain in the a$$ about not over-selling these old drums, but that is in their original state. They just don't sound good until they have been worked. It would match well with this kit, it is Fibre Gold.
