Thinking on buying this Apollo kit

Loading...

Well I ended up bringing these home even though the bd has had one spur mount ripped out of the shell, Im a wood worker, no big deal. The Acro will clean up super nice, I really love it. One of the snare stands was labled Ludwig standard. The kick pedals I know nothing about, they say Camco but made by Tama. And a heavy duty Tama snare stand came with it also. Here are a few pics.

Here are pics of the drums. Notice the claws on the bass drum, they look just like the Fibes ones I have been looking for. The snare and 16" ft have gray interiors and pretty thick shells. The 13" tom has the tinner shells with re-rings. The snare drum is missing the throw off and butt and the muffler. And, the 13" tom has a Yamaha mount on it, boo! All in all, these drums have potential, I am glad to have rescued them. Thanks for looking, anyone have the parts for the snare drum please send a message.

The Acro is looking good. What are you thinking about for finishing the Apollo kit?

I was going to keep the red sparkle until I saw the hole in the bass drum. That and an extra hole in the 13" tom from the Yamaha bracket makes me think a veneer cover and an a cool new finish. My 22 year old daughter is begging my to do a lime green kit, what do you think? There is a chance I will keep it red sparkle. I have another MIJ kit that was blue sparkle but some doh-head painted them red. Those will get the veneer and a cool finsh job for sure. But first I must get my Fibes kit done, so many projects and so little time.

You know, you coud do a veneer and stain it lime green or do a lime green fade. It would look seriously cool and make you daughter happy at the same time. Not vintage so much, but who cares; it's an MIJ kit. Of course there's always the Glitter Blast treatment.

That is exactly what I was going to do, a lime green ( or other color) that is transparent, showing the wood grain below the finish. Lots of fun experimenting with these different finishes. I do have respect for MIJ drums finishes but this one is trashed anyway.

That would look pretty killer. I can't wait to see how it turns out.

Stripping the bass drum tonight. Still waiting for stainless steel for the Fibes kit so might as well do something right? Lime green it is.
