There’s a reason the Monkees’ Micky Dolenz plays drums that way: ‘I know it’s bizarre

Yep Robyn, they`ve been cased for that long of a time and congrats to you for having that claim of still having your`s after all this time and you`re right...i guess we do share some bragging rights together.I`m gonna` let em` sing sometime soon as i`m not getting any younger, lol.

I`m thinking Jude is very ambedexterous and that should boad well for him in what ever instrument he chooses. He`ll be sure to find his niche`and has twice the chance to do it and as you well know in music... dexterity is everything.Enjoy helping him Robyn, you lucky Grandma.

PS.-Can anybody else out there top this weird drumset configuration of mine-dare ya`,lol.

Wayne,

Actually, I think you and Micky Dolenz set up your sets "correctly"; that is, you set them up ergonomically to your playing. Most of us just set up our drums in the "standard" established configurations we saw in the catalogs. These were the configurations that most professional drummers had standardized since the "trap" set was conceived and evolved. Sure, a few drummers through the early years experimented with different configurations (how revolutionary was Louis Bellsen!)

but for the most part, we simply copied the status quo with no consideration to ergonomics. You and Micky did it "right"

Question about that gorgeous Rogers 6-pc you posted: the bass has two symmetric, single tom mount collets on top rather than a double tom mount. Did you custom order this because of some "lefty" consideration, or did it come from the factory like that? Just curious.

"The Hands Of Thyme"?

LOL - You gotta love the names of bands from that era! Now get off my lawn, Hippie! :D

John

Too many great drums to list here!

Mike, thanks for letting me know that us leftys aren`t all that mixed up after all. And i often wondered just how many other leftys out there in that same time period, went thro` the varying sequence of drum kit configurational set ups that i did?

The tom mounts that you asked about were factory installed and custom ordered that way due to my set prior to the Rogers. It was a set of Bolleros with a single center mounted tom post for one tom and later i had an opposite tom attachment welded on to that same post.I never liked the feel or look of the the double tom mount and thus my decision to order the symmetrical single tom mounts.Rogers would bend over backwards to keep you happy in those days with top quality stuff.

John, yes it was "The Hands of Tyme",lol and we competed against another area band called "The Sands of Time" some 150 miles away, but we were very aware of who each other were and the similarity of band names. And once a Hippy-always a Hippie at heart, lol and now i`ve got my own lawn...

Lefty Rogers. Sounds like a good name for the head of a crime syndicate. Since this thread is speaking a lot to the the challenges of setting up drums for lefties, here's a lefty Rogers kit to enjoy. Saw this on DFO recently.

Has anyone gone through books like 'the new breed' - Gary Chester,? this is supposed to teach you total co- ordination of the instrument. I got through both books .Trouble is unless you keep that sort of high level co- ordination up its hard for it to be just a real natural part of you.........

Dan Boucher, that`s a very cool lefty Rogers set and for the true lefty. As you know i`m left handed but play righty on top and lefty down below so i`m only half backwards lol.

Olddrumgeek,i have the New Breed book but never got all the way thro` it.You really have to be committed to that book as it`ll tear your independence apart and then put them back together.

orangemi,i`d totally forgotten Micky Dolenz was Circus Boy and the elephant`s name was Bimbo, thanks for the memories...

check out old videos of Cold Blood. The drummer plays the hi-hat way lower than the snare so it is an underhand type of THanG.But he gets the job done and quite nicely as well..Lydia Pense ain't bad to look at either...
