The verdict is in. Will Evans Level 360 Drumheads fit vintage, oversized drums??? Last viewed: 20 seconds ago

I have an oversized 13" tom (it measures right at 13") and it does not come close to fitting.

Remo said they would custom make 13 3/16" heads for me, at about a 20% upcharge and about a 4 week turn around.

That's what I'll have to end up doing. Honestly, I don't like the look of the Aquarian American Vintage heads (dirty yellow), and I don't want to try cutting the metal hoop part of the head, so I'll just custom order from Remo.

Bummer. I was really hoping that the Level 360's would work.

What kind of drums are you putting them on?

I'm not sure what made you think they would fit

the hoops are not larger ....the collar is just wider

Looking on the bright side, you will soon have a "custom made" Remo head.

Now that's rare. flower

If you wait 10 years, maybe it will be worth more than what you paid for it.

vyacheslav,

As I had mentioned in another thread a couple weeks back, I just got several of the Level 360 heads in, but as of today I still haven't put them on anything just yet.

My experience with just about any Evans heads has been that they usually fit looser (is that spelled right??) than Remos, but many times I've had to order Aquarian American Vintage heads anyway... have you tried them?

Hey Billnvick,

I have not yet tried the American Vintage Aquarian Heads. Personally, I don't like the dirty yellow look of them; I prefer white coated. Minor detail, I know, but that's what I prefer. No one carries them in stock and they would have to be ordered, so as long as I have to put an order in anyway, I might as well stick with my Coated Ambassadors.

It's on a 9" x 13" MIJ Apollo drum from the late 60's. It's the only over-sized drum on the kit. The floor tom, bass drum and snare are all okay.

I emailed Evans a while ago when I had first heard of them and the Evans rep said that they had tried their heads on drums as much as 1/4" oversized and they fit. That of course isn't true, since my drum measures right at 13". I have already given feedback to Evans regarding this.

Maybe the one drum is so out of round that bad that a head wont fit? Just thought Id throw that out there. Ive been thinking of trying the 360s on a Gretsch RB kit I have. I wonder how close it would be. I can get REMO heads on them if I really push em on.

I like the AQ american vintage heads, but I think AQ may be missing the boat by not offering then in at least the regular coating,I think a lot of vintage players would like the choice.

I have a B/O kit with a 16" floor tom that has a slightly our of round reso edge. I put the Aquarian vintage heads on the reso side of that kit because they fit and are, in fact, the only heads that fit. I do not care for the yellowed finish either. I would much prefer white.

On my round badge Gretsch kit I had a strange outcome with Evans heads (which I play almost all the time):

16" Floor tom

1. G2 Coated Level 360 fit a little snug

2. G2 Coated slid on no problems

On my Ludwig Club date kit 14" Floor tom:

1. G1 Coated Level 360 - fit no problem

2. G1 Coated - fit snug

I think you just have to try because not all heads will work for me either.
