I'm guessing that the advent of "Car Culture" in the USA basically made folding drums a non-starter, although I know that a few companies (Duplex ?) made them for a while.

I love the niche that these fellows have found for Youtube and I wouldn't mind possessing one of those engraved Carlton, Art Deco snares too.

You can kind of see how the old kits were set up to showcase a contraption at at a time like an orchestral percussionist might approach it and less set up to be played in the much more specialized, bass, snare and toms ways of today. Cymbal stands didn't really need to be super heavy duty because riding on them wasn't a thing. Cymbals didn't need to be big, either because they were used for just little splashes of sound and often hand-choked like we see in many old clips. Early kits often didn't even have hi-hats!

You usually didn't have to pack a throne, either because you just used a chair from the venue!

He would be a great resource to have in our community. I wonder how to get ahold of him.

I would love to talk to this guy. He plays that old swing style very well, with all those press rolls, which is actually my background as well. I don't know how on earth he keeps a big band together these days, but we should try to get him to come here.
