The REAL MIJ drums - now that's more like it

Loading...

Just got home from an amazing Japanese taiko drum concert held outside in the courtyard of an old Shinto shrine- right in the heart of Osaka - in the city.

The drums in the back are about 4 feet in diameter with the center one about 6 feet around.

The red drums are waidoko and the wood colored drums are traditional taiko.

Taiko like this gives me goose bumps to see live- you 've got to experience it someday. I have seen this same group in this annual concert now 7 years in a row- a great drumming tradition. Can you see the drummer sitting ON TOP of the drums playing them with giant sticks downwards?

Hi OsakaBop! I had the privilege of hearing taiko drumming some years ago at Disneyland here in southern California. Yes, it does give goose bumps! Thanks for posting the great pictures!

I saw a segment on "How It's Made" on how taiko drums are built. It makes the building of kit drums look pretty silly. You won't believe what goes into them. See if you can find it on YouTube.
