The Quest of Understanding

Loading...

So I have decided that I am going to make an attempt at organizing all the MIJ names by who actually made them. Or at least as close as I can possibly get. I know some names are still being discovered. And there are a few kits that tend to throw everything into " WHAT " I think before I get knee deep I'm gonna start with a basic question and slowly progress down the line.

The hex arm, who did that? Now I have it on a Tempro pro kit I have which is 100% Pearl. But I have the same hex arm on my U.S.Mercury kit which has been linked to Star. Now what has me a tad confused is the lugs on the kit are what Pearl was using, not Star.

Let the quest for understanding begin!

Yea, if you could e-mail me the names that you have. I have a running list myself, along with the drum guide and the forum here. But there are always a few new ones that someone has seen and no one else has. But that isn't shocking if you think that a drum store in Kansas had a badge specific to them, and one from NY had another. Chances are until now with the internet, most people had no clue of the other names. Heck many of us still get a shock once in a while from a badge we've never seen.

My goal is this. I know there will never be a 100% accurate list, some will be dead on, others will be the best educated guess. But at least if you can look at a lug,tom mount, wrap, even badge and have a good idea who made it. That is gonna make life so nice when someone finds a MIJ set.

And then ( This would be amazing ) if I could find at least some of the places these badges were made for. Like what was the Sears brand, who was JASON made for, etc... That could shed a lot of light on some of these names. Because there are a lot!

Take your time my friend. I have a feeling this process is going to take some time. But that's what makes it fun.

Hi, Jay!

I can help a bit here but, like Rod says, it's not going to be easy. I am quite sure though that Tempros were made by Pearl. Tempos, by Star. I'm also relatively certain that both companies employed the same manufacturers to produce certain parts. Good idea, amigo but, this is going to take some time and research.

Salty_1322 that is one of my other big questions. Is a lug like the Slingerland style. Pretty sure both at one point used it. So there could be others as well. From my current understanding each had 1-3 lugs unique to them and then there was the generics. But again that is my current understanding. Truthfully one word sums up this idea of mine - Daunting, lol

Hey, Jay,

"Supreme" is definitely another stencil of Star. This isn't much but, maybe it will help a bit.

Hello,

Interesting and good idea, to make a 'final' list of the Who Is Who at Pearl or Star.

From ARCHxANGEL

... My goal is this. I know there will never be a 100% accurate list, some will be dead on, others will be the best educated guess. But at least if you can look at a lug,tom mount, wrap, even badge and have a good idea who made it. That is gonna make life so nice when someone finds a MIJ set. ...

This one nails it down and is the approach we have done here (mainly successful) in the past.

May I make a promotion on my own and draw your kind attention to my website where I already have collected the Star stencil brands, as far as I took notice of them so far?
