The Long-Promised MIJ Orphan Sale

Loading...

2/25/17 - (With the sale of a huge lot of mine.....) EVERYTHING IN THIS OFFERING HAS NOW SOLD.

After some 10 months or so - I finally have taken the final delivery of the MIJ orphans from my drum store owner friend.

I also acquired some American stuff - so be on the look-out for that thread in this FS section if interested.

IMPORTANT: I started a thread earlier this year asking members what they were looking for in MIJs. There are 3 members who indicated their desires where I believe I have what they were looking for. I am PMing them to check in with them and they have first dibs on those drums. I will indicate which drums are under the first dibs consideration, and then edit the post if sold or if they pass on their options. If they pass on it, I will simply remove the dibs note on this list. They get first dibs because they expressed specific interest way back - like 9 months ago.

Pricing does not include shipping from 49285

Here is the list:

1) BDP Bongos - 60s Star (I believe) 6in / 8in - one crack in the wrap. $25 8in hoop is newer off a child's set. Needs 8in head, some rods

2) 14in 1967 or earlier Pearl made Whitehall snare with 3 cut-outs. Sounds really warm and does indeed still have resonant tone despite cut-outs. When tuned low, reminds me of the older 30s deep mahogany snares. Notice the red to orange fading. $35

3) 16in blue sparkle Floor Tom -- 6-lug. If the muffler is original - it is Star. Not positive on who made it considering all parts, though. Thinner 4-5ply, yet no re-rings. Shell is quite thin - and I believe it is Star due to the nature of this shell. Needs parts as you can see. All 3 leg mounts are there, needs bottom hoop/rods, legs. Some water damage, but has full integrity. Needs bottom hoop and legs. $25 SOLD

4) 12in Red Agate Pearl / Red Onyx Star-made tom. The lugs hold the wrap on - pitting on lugs/muffler knob. Needs hoops. 1967 or earlier. Cleaned but not polished. $20.

5) 12in Silvertone red sparkle tom. This was made by Pearl between 1972-1974. Takes the hex mounting. "Battleship" lugs. $20

6) Unbadged 12in red sparkle tom - one double ended lug, includes mounting arm - not sure if it is original to this drum, but included nonetheless. tom mount bracket with Premier knock-off one-arm tensioner screw - indicates Pearl. $25 ***This drum is currently in consideration by a forum member with first dibs. Keep an eye here if interested though, as this buyer might pass on it.***SOLD

7) 1966 (though possibly a 1964 or 1965) 14in red sparkle Star Deluxe Model snare drum featuring the baseball bat muffler knob. This is the first time I have ever seen a BB muffler knob on an MIJ (in my hands / in person / other than pics). I won't say very rare or a little rare or anything like that - but I believe Rare is accurate to some degree. http://www.tamadrum.co.jp/anniversary/expansion.php?cat_id=5&now=5

Badge is missing - evidence of it being there in the past. $50

8) 1967 or earlier Pearl-made gold sparkle 12in tom. No badge, stick saver hoops. $25 ***This drum is currently in consideration by a forum member with first dibs. Keep an eye here if interested though, as this buyer might pass on it.***SOLD

9) Blue sparkle 3 pc Hoshino shell-pack: 12, 16, 20 5or6 ply, No re-rings.-------SORRY------I decided to keep these.

******* This LOT that I acquired (from my friend who owns a drum store) included several other pieces as well including some MIT and MIA (yes, some Luddys, a Slinger, a Gretsch.) These will be in a separate thread entitled Orphan Sale: Other - Ludwig, Slingerland, Gretsch *******

Over the next couple days I will add more pics. Just one pic for each for right now.

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

Pics of Item 8 (1967 or earlier Pearl-made gold sparkle 12in tom)

Stick saver hoops. Good top head - ripped bottom head.

I have a Pearl-made kit with this shell - and I consider it to be among the best of the vintage MIJ - sounds GREAT. I get compliments often.
