According to unproven legend, today we celebrate the birthday of legendary drummer Morris Flam. Morris was born on this date in 1894 in Carpathia. He emigrated to the United States in 1927 after serving in the Carpatian Royal Guard Marching Band as a snare drummer and glockenspiel player. He is world renowned for developing a more musical approach to playing a double hit on a drum--usually the snare drum. Before Mr. Flam began playing the double hit with a nano second of delay between the two hits, the double hit was indistinguishable from a loud single hit. Between the years of 1927 and his passing in 1961 Mr. Flam played in circus bands that toured the United States, Canada, and some European countries. In 1942, almost by accident, Morris Flam created the flamadiddle. Let us all play flams today to honor Morris Flam.
