The Blues Brothers movie

Loading...

Just watched the blues brothers last night. Forgot what a great movie it was and the great soundtrack it had!

A couple of thoughts:

Seeing all of the drums get wiped out during the mall chase scene almost brought a tear to my eye.

Loved seeing all of the older sets, especially the Slingerland set at the hall with the matching drum for the throne.

There's a Ludwig kit in the church scene with James Brown and one of the kits that gets destroyed in the mall scene looked like a Vistalite kit! Great music from Cropper, Dunn, Murphy and sweet Lou.

John

Too many great drums to list here!

Personally, my second cousin was in the movie :) He was flipping the bird and screaming at the Nazi's on the bridge!

Here are a few drum related discrepancies:

Taken from IMDB

When the band is playing in Ray's Music Exchange, and also at big gig at the end, we can clearly hear the drums and cymbals crashing, but the drummer is faking his movements; the cymbals do not move, nor does the drummer actually make contact with the drums with his drumsticks.

The music played in the church does not coincide with the musician's movements, especially the drummer; the soundtrack plays the snare drum while the depicted drummer is on the upbeat, and not the downbeat.

During the big concert at the end, when Jake and Elwood are being introduced, it's obvious that Willie is not hitting the cymbal and is, instead, playing air drums.

When Elwood hits the drum store in the mall, there are no drums on the Bluesmobile, but a couple of shots later when he starts fleeing they're now on top of the Bluesmobile.

When the band is playing "Jailhouse Rock" at the very end, the drummer goes from hitting the ride cymbal to the high hats in the same bar (four measures).

I did a job a few years ago for lady that used to live in Chicago and she worked at that mall where they do this scene. Obviously the mall had been abandoned and shut down for a couple of years before they shot the scene. But it's cool everything thet did in this movie was real. The chase down Wacker Drive crashing through the front doors of the building where they pay their taxes. They even dropped that little car from a helicopter to create the effect of it being ramped up high in the air. This was probably one of my favorite movies of all time

Thank you!
