The Blaemire section of the Forum, 10x14 SN

That is a stunning set of drums my friend. The green glass snare drum just tops the kit off perfectly. Man, you should think about putting a light in that thing! The Blaemire fiberglass is so translucent, it invites lighting!

Great job by both of you. See if you can find a photo of Jerry's vertical sanding set-up for the shells! Everybody who works on drums needs to see that thing. Great set-up he has for working on drums. You must have had a blast putting your kit together. Love it! A one-of-a-kind beauty!

John

PS - I'm surprised more of the forum members aren't chiming in and asking questions. I learned just about everything I know about Blaemire shells from reading Jerry's posts for a couple of years. There's lots to know... J.

Too many great drums to list here!

I've thought about a light, it would be so cool. I think most people are turned off by the "fiberglass" word. I too, was naive about them, until I heard and played some Blaemires. It's the best sounding kit I've ever played, and I seem to have found "my" sound while playing them. Plus, they are very rare, so most people just don't have experience or the chance to hear/play them.

Here's a cool shot of their translusence.;)

Hey John

Not sure if Greg or I have just a picture of my Blaemire sanding table...but this is better.

[QUOTE=mendozart;135204]I've thought about a light,

"I see the light", "Go to the light Carol Ann"

Translucent, yes, but not without some work. See mid point snare resto pic.

Nothing really good ever comes without a lot of that!

Mendozart - Those shells look so cool in the sunlight. Those drums are perfect for outdoor gigs on well lit days. The drums glow from the inside.

Jinx, thanks for the video link! It's wild to watch the old glue disappearing and that mossy green frosted glass start to show through. Question: Man, where did you get that belt sanding station? (make, model please) What grit were you using to strip those shells?

I'm glad you're working outdoors in the videos because the natural light is strong enough to penetrate the shell and show off how beautifully luminescent those fiberglass shells are. Aside from the hassle of working with fiberglass, it must be fun/gratifying to work on those drums. You picked an interesting drum niche to explore. Blaemire... who knew?

It is similar to the one below. I got it from Harbor Freight. They dont sell the one on the stand anymore, but I am sure they are out there somewhere.

I used 80 or 100 grit on those shells.

I noticed that you were having a bit of trouble keeping the shell from rocking. Maybe you have already done this but if you mount a larger piece of mdf to the table it would solve that problem. Great job on those shells!

Thanks Lucky

That video was early in my use of that sander. I have since changed it up a bit by setting a small table in front of it. I will be using it soon in my new shop (just moved in the last few weeks) and I may take your advice and add on a larger platform for the shells to sit on. I will be working on an excited new project that I will soon be posting about.

If anyone has any more Blaemire stories like the Karen Carpenter story.

Please, please share them. No fears of highjacking forum threads here.

We all want to know. We love the saga. There are so many interconnections with the Blaemires.

FYI, If you have not read "The Ballad of Rick Faucher" on the net, please look it up under Blaemire search or Hal Blaine search. Great story of Blaemires, Hal, Karen, Keltner, Ringo and the old studio days.

I am looking forward to seeing the next drumjinx creation.
