The best snare wires for my latest drum

Loading...

Hi!

I recently bought a COB 6,5x14 Singerland Buddy Rich snare drum on e-bay.

After adjusting the shell a bit it is truly a lovely drum, but it needs new snare wires. What would you guys suggest for a nice responsive sound?

Would a 15" puresound fit or should i go for a Pearl free floating replacement?

Also how many strands can i have before the wires interfer with the snare bed?

Cheers

Tore

Is this a TDR snare? If so, you could use 15" Puresounds without a problem. Personally, I think Puresounds are the best for vintage snares. I wouldn't put anything wider than a 16 strand on it.

Thanks for your quick answer.

Yes it is a TDR-strainer so i guess i´ll go for the Puresound 15".

When you say that you wouldn´t use anything more than 16 strands - is that because of personal taste, or is that the size limit set by the snare bed / bottom hoop?

Well, I suppose 20 strands would work OK, but 16's have always worked best for my older snares, Particularly from this era. I believe the original wires for this snare would've been 16 strand....
