Tension rod lengths for Ludwig drums

Loading...

Hey all! I recently received a very nice early-to-mid 70's Ludwig Super Classic kit in blue sparkle. While taking everything apart for a good detailing, I found inconsistencies with the tension rods on both the 9x13 and 16x16 toms. The 9x13 has a mix of 1-5/8" and 1-7/8" rods, while the 16x16 has both 1-7/8" and 2-1/4" rods. Many rods also don't appear to be Ludwig. I have a feeling that Ludwig may have used rod lengths of 1-7/8" for both toms. Just to clear up any confusion, we should all be aware that the length is measured from below the collar to the end of the thread. Anyone have some 70's toms they can confirm these lengths with? Yes, I'm anal about these little trivial things and agonize over using the correct parts!! Help me before I lose too much sleep!

My 13" tom has the 2-5/16" long and my 16" FT has the 2-3/4" long t-rods...This measurement INCLUDES the head as shown in the pics...I don't have just the shaft measurement at the moment...My kit is of 1971 vintage...I hope this helps....

Cheers

Thanks for posting pictures of your tension rods. The rod for the rack tom is 1-7/8", with the floor tom rods being 2-3/8". Again, we all need to measure rods the way they are referred to; and that is from the below the collar to the end of the threads. Ludwig also produced the same length rods with different length threads, but I'm not concerned with that, only the length of the rod itself. Again, thanks for posting this. I hope others will let me know if their drums have different length rods.
