Tempo Drums

As always, we LOVE to see pics, in this case a pic of the badge!

To my opinion, the timeline of MIJ kits starts in the early 60's. It appears that before this date there were MIJ drums on the market, but never with a badge on it. So it'll be rather difficult to put such drums (... if any are still existing ...) into the correctly dated time and to the right manufacturer.

There also existed a 'Tempo' badge for kits made by Star (please refer to my website), not to be mixed with the list of your stencils.

Awesome Ralf...I'll snap a picture of the badge and post it. Perhaps you could help me identify what I actually have.

As promised, here is a Badge from my Tempo Pro kit, yet another wrinkle in the crumbled understanding of the Early Pearl Days. Notice the Sticks, the same as the Tempro Badge. I have almost completed the restoration, maintaining all originality. Components that have been temporarily substituted are in a cozy box, never too far from the kit.

it is quite interesting.

The crossing sticks were the same as on PearlĀ“s Tempro drums stencil brand.

My kit with the Tempo Pro Badge is Tiger's Eye Pearl which was made by Pearl in 1969. Regular Tiger's Eye was made by Peal in 1968. Also, the Badge Lettering is exactly the same in both the Tempro & Tempo Pro Badges. Same manufacturer, one precedes the other, just not sure which one. Pretty cool though, huh, I've never seen my badge anywhere other than my set. When I have completed the assembly, I'll post a pic of the kit completed. Greg

Pearl flooded the market here in the 70's with their "Tempo" entry level kits, still see the odd kit around..

Cheers

Yes - Pearl is the correct producer. Then I'm 'off' concerning any detailed information. ;)

Ralf

NB: love to hear that you try to keep the kit as genuine as possible!

"Tempo" not "Tempro" or "Tempo Pro" is made by Star. I am certainly not an expert on anything but, as I've said before, if the badge says "World's Supreme Quality" and it has the right configuration,it is a Star. If the lugs, rims, strainer, t-rods and shell are identical other to Star stencils, it is a Star!

Just a drummer who loves all things about vintage drums! Nothing more, nothing less.

GKyrox; pleased to meet you and welcome to the nut house! :)

Yeah, post those pictures as soon as you can. You've got most of the best minds for MIJ's churning, waiting to see what it is you have.

Oh yeah, I'm not including myself in the 'best minds' thing... my knowledge of MIJ kits is scanty at best. i just think those wraps are incredible! Of course, that's coming from a guy that thinks 'Blazing Saddles' is the best movie ever made...
