What's wrong with the old ones?

They are easy to remove, re-lubricate, and put back in.

Are they damaged? You should be able to replace them yourself. Besides, having a "professional" do it might outweigh the cost of the pedal. You can find used Camcos out there for under $75 or sometimes even under $50.

the pedal hardly moves due to bearing friction.

I bought the pedal on e bay and it came with an oversized aftermarket bearing sticking halfway out of the bearing housing. I hear these pedals have a bearing keeper that has to be destroyed to remove the bearings, that are almost impossible to remove. I may decide to do something else, and like you suggested buy another used one and hope the bearings are a little better. I wish I could buy one new, I just love the action of this pedal.
