tama trak

just by chance bought a kit the other morning so my daughter could have a dedicated kit of her own, knocked off night shift viewed this kit and was confused by the fact the snare is a trak, which i have now researched and concluded is a good snare, however was thrown off because the rest of the drums but not all had what i thought at the time where tama badges stuck inside cut outs of the wrap? long story short vendor wanted them gone did'nt want much considering, kit came with hard cases rack toms are 13'',14''. after revisiting these drums have realised they are indeed tama superstars that have been rewrapped and they have cut out around the badge, hard ware is mostley tama, but in my haste got hooked up on this trak tangent, so much for working 60 hrs on night shift. looking forward to unwrapping as it doesn't appear to be glued.also came with a 20'' zildjian rock ride and 10'' splash and 14'' schalloch hats that seem to play well contrary to reviews i have read, am pretty happy for $350, will post after unwrapping.

My Superstars are outstanding drums.I'll bet those are natural maple that got scratched up and rather than refinish-cover it up.Scratched up wood finishes look ugly...

How about a photo of the snare? The Trak snare's that i know of were M.I.J. and sold under the Paste cymbal line in the late 80's...Mikey

here are some pics of the trak snare, 10 lugger well made, plays well, on closer inspection it appears to be a rewrap which suggest who ever owned these drums wanted them all the same colour, guess i'll have to unwrap this snare as well as the rest of the kit and see what i get.

I sold Trak kits, or tried to, back in the 80's. There were some nice wood finishes available on the higher end drums. You might be in for a pleasant surprise.

couldn't help myself and unwrapped the snare, no such luck just obvious that the original wrap has been removed. unwrapped the 13'' tom and as i thought a natural lacquered finish that has the usual tell tale of a players kit, but more preferred than the el cheapo silver back red wrap, i have taken this stuff off low end kits with view to paint the shells and i hate the stuff but to be fair to who ever did this rewrap theres not a lot of drum wrap available in australia. discovered a broken lug to boot, will check out others as i go. i am sure the shells will look fine after i have unwrapped and cleaned as all of my kits i class as players but will seriously consider wrapping the trak snare, maybe in a good quality chrome wrap.

Oh yes i sold the Trak drums in the late 80's also. The Trak line of drums were sold under the Paiste line of cymbals, the top of the line were badges Paiste the shells were 6 ply beech with out rings the drums came in a wrap plastic finish and a painted finish also.

The Trak line was the lower end of set's.They had 3 types of badges Tral system 100--Trak system 250 both sets had the same shells 9 ply with out rings, the 100 lone had single brace hardwear the 250 had double brace hardwear same lugs. Both badges were stickers same shape as the one you posted the back ground was black the letters in silver..

On the Trak line with the badge that is on your snare was the top of the line of the lower end of the Trak drums..I can't recall what the shells were made of..

All the Trak sets that i sold were from the 100 and 250 line..I also sold the Paiste line drums..On a side note i had a griend that worked a Paista in cal and when Paiste sold off all the drums they had in ca i got them all i paid 100.00 a set and sold them for 300.00...Mikey

Trak was a quite interesting project, trying to make quality drums - and marked the end of the line for Hoshino as a drum maker. More here:
