Tama Superstar Frankenkit

Loading...

I put this kit together over several years out of trashed Supes of various finishes. Had to plug many holes and do mega sanding to get the Kryptonite-like clear coat off. No badges ( they were all trashed) and it's now my main gigging kit. Coated Ambassadors really make it sing, and the local sound guys always comment on how great it sounds. I also have a 16X18 and an 8X12 not pictured.

Like my friend, drums2xs points out, that must have been a tremendous amount of work. The results certainly are impressive! Great job!

I feel your pain-I'm living with the scritchy-scratchy Cherry Wine stain rather than sanding my 83's.Beautiful job!

I really like what you have done with this kit! I assume you needed to sand down the existing finish to get glue to adhere, is that correct?

Yes. Most of the drums had extra holes that required dowel plugs, so I had to sand those spots anyway. The clear coat Tama used is extremely thick and took many hours of sanding, but it was a labor of love. I used the 3M NF-30 glue

The black kick head has a white Tama logo now, but I'm looking for an original, unmolested Superstar logo head.

nice job! you can order decals online for like five bucks and put them on a new coated head or whatever you like. just checkebay. i made up this head for my royalstar kit and it really helps the kit look new again!
