Tama starclassic question

Loading...

Hi All-

I recently acquired a 2004 (or thereabouts)Starclassic Performer kit in a trade. I know very little about Tamas. Can anyone tell me with certainty if the shells are maple or birch? From my research they seem to be birch. It's on Craigslist Allentown,pa. Folks keep asking me what the shells are. Don't want to steer anyone wrong. Been telling them that they are birch. They never respond. Seems everyone wants maple these days. Oh well.

Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks

Hi Dave,

Seems to me that this topic was recently discussed! In any event, yes, Starclassic Performer shells are 100 percent Birch. Beautiful drums! Attached is a picture of my 2003 Performer EFX kit.

Performer (birch) has metal badges (unless a wrapped maple) and a bass drum mount as well as 8 lug bass drum (unless a 24")

Maple has virgin bass drum, transfer instead of metal badge and 10 lug bass drum.

Finishes can also be model specific, if you post a pic I can tell you finish, year etc.

In regards to everyone wanting maple - have a look at all the new kits at NAMM this year, a massive amount of birch kits released.
