Tama's design quality, craftsmanship and reputation have attracted my attention for many years.
Though some of their designs have struck me as a bit gaudy, the simplicity and elegance of this particular model caught my attention.
As I'm partial to 10 lugs, die cast hoops, my preferred snare depth of 6.5", 7-ply maple shell, black lacquer finish and a Gladstone style throw, I couldn't resist.
It's due to arrive today.
Nice snare for sure! the quality tama was putting out during this time period was top notch. Anytime i can pinch a artstar from the 80s or early nineties i jump. congrats you will enjoy for sure

It joins the exalted ranks (for me) of two other treasured 6.5"s, my Phonic re-issue 516 and Gretsch Broadkaster.

Like kevins, I'm Tama challenged as well. But that is a nice looking snare drum.
As I have said here before... My Tama 10 lug DC hoop is my go to Snare.. Nothing else comes close IMO..

I wanted:
5.5" or less
maple
piano black (to match my Pearl GLX kit)
no die cast hoops (they jar my wrists)
So we are both new Tama owners. This drum is absolutely stellar. Planning on a soundcheck on my youtube channel very shortly. Really is a special drum.

Those are late 80s to early 90s Artwood snares. Great working mains. The lug designs varied a tiny bit. Always preferred the lugs displayed here. Tama offered a line of "simple" Maple snares that were/are outstanding. They overshot their goal. Really excellent snares in a number of sizes. They streamlined these by mid-late 90s-early 2k and really vanilla'd them down. But, there was a window of some very cool AWs.
