Tama Kingbeat snare drums Last viewed: 7 minutes ago
I have the 5" version, parallel strainer..
Any particular reason you ask?
I have a 5x14 model in the "for sale" pages.

Neglected but thinking about:

Latz,I was just wondering how many in good working order there are out there. Seems to be a pretty rare and maybe a bit overlooked snare. I own 4(3-5x14&1-6x14)that are all in great working order. I love these snare drums. If you have a bit of patience working with the strainer you'll find an awesome snare waiting to be played and coveted.

Mine is in great working order. I had to repair the nylon/plastic threaded nuts that the rod passes through, but otherwise, it's been a great drum. Used it to record an EP years ago, and it sounded huge!!
What kind of $$$$$$$$$ do these drums command?
I have one of these -- it came bundled along with my RBs when I bought them 16 years ago. I made the mistake of taking it apart to see how the parallel strainer worked, and the parallel action hasn't worked since. But it's still a spectacularly good snare drum. I used to tell people I had a great Tama snare, and they would scoff at me. Seriously good drum.

Greetings,
The parallel strainer King Beats are excellent snares. My experience with the particular ones that I've purchased is that very few have come without some variety of cosmetic and or operational flaws. I have several nice models that I've restored over the years, all from different generations. All of the ones that I own are in near mint condition. Let me know if you need any help fixing yours. There isn't a problem that can exist with these drums that I haven't encountered.
Take care.

In top condition,. they bring around 150-200. Really good snares. you woujld be surprised to know you can hear them on a number of recordings, thinking it ia a Supra. Think Copeland...he used one for years.

Thanks for the offer, Kevin! I tried fixing mine about 15 years ago (shortly after taking it apart for the first time), spent about an hour on it, and gave up. I haven't messed with it since. Even without the parallel action working with the throw of the lever, I still love this strainer. Actually, I find it very easy to achieve just the right sound by manipulating the height of each side of the strainer independently.
These days, I get so little time with my drums that whenever I can be alone with them, I spend the time playing! But if I ever find time to take the drum apart again, I'll let you know if I need help tinkering with it. Much appreciated.
