Wondering if anyone has a Tama Imperial Star snare and has changed the wires on it before?

A friend of mine got some puresound wires that are suppose to fit but don't seem long enough, needs about another 5-10mm to be fully functioning.

Also this is the serial 77750, is there a dating guide anyone knows of?
