"i bought a later 80's Tama Swingstar double bass kit with the square lugs, and had two toms that were 14x14 and 15x15"You mean like these Rob? These 80's zola-coated Swings also have the power depth toms but with only a 22" bass drum rather 24"and that 2" seems to make a lot of difference comfort-wise for meI do have the other bass drum but the hoops are not presentable and besides I have all I can handle with just the one

Yes, exactly like that model ! Great sounding drums, and you can get them for peanuts now. I once saw a set with rare standard depths go for under $300 in Toronto ! They were also in mint condition, and looked like new old stock..

Superstars are the BEST drums to come out of the 80's - bar none. Now can you stumble across a set that may cost you less than what you are paying for these? Likely, but don't sweat it. Pass on the power tom kits, grab the traditional depths like yours.

You can turn Power toms over and get them much lower on the BD mounts. Unlike a snare or CT or white bucket, they have no top and bottom.

Hello Rob, You sure are right about these 80's zola coated Swings

They sound fantastic and are very solid durable drums

the least I paid was $60.00 for 12"13" 16"22" with a granitone rocker snare the drums were complete

and pretty much ready to play save for the only included hardware was the double tom arm and the floor tom legs

the most I paid was 200.00 which was most likely one of my best deals ever

I got the same 12"13"16"22" with a10" tom as well and a Ludwig acrolite snare

a huge Tama rack, DW pedals, three K zildjains, a pair of quick beat hats,

and a big case full of stands and misc gear for only $200.00 measly balloons

even the large kit pictured above was only $40.00 for all of those toms and two bass drums

but in that case, when I got them, they were just the shells with the lugs and a few of the batter side hoops

no heads, no rods, no nothing,

Hello OddBall

It had never occurred to me to turn the power depth toms

upside down to position them lower on the BD mounts

I am definitely going to try that. Thanks
