I'm looking to pick up a decent vintage snare drum but nothing that'll break the bank. It's for use with one of my pub kits that i leave at one of the pubs i play at. So i found two potential candidates, from the same lineage. One is a vintage red T-badge Tama Swingstar with snare stand for $100 Cdn.. The other is a black T-badge 5x14 Royalstar of the same dimensions. My questions are-- Which of the two is the higher end model, and seeing as how they look so similar, (even have the same lugs),how much would one pay for such a snare drum ? The Royalstar is part of a Royalstar kit, but i'm not sure if they'll separate the snare and drums. It's from a local pawnshop, and they have a section on their website where you can ask questions and make an offer on the item in question.
I saw the Royalstar snare from just outside the shop window cause it's located close by my neighborhood. If the shop will separate the drums, I will make an offer. But how much would be a fair offer ? I found one from an old auction on Reverb.com that went for $49.99 USD..In Cdn, that would be around $68.00..It was pretty mint, except for 4 extra holes. The one i'm considering looks all original, but i'd have to make a closer inspection to see if that is the case and that everything's in working order. In terms of which is the higher end, is the Swingstar worth it, or should i just go for the Royalstar ? First link is to the Swingstar with stand, and the other is from the Reverb link of the same Royalstar model..
Thanks to all in advance for the info suggestions.
cheers,
Rob
