I found this drum in a pawn shop. Was wondering what anyone can tell me about it. It has a seam. Serial number is 0411xx , 14 inch Tama
Tama brass/ bronze pico
Here is a couple photos I got. They want 450 or so for it
Hi Spread5150!
That drum is the PM323 and shows in the 1988 Snare Drum catalog. PM stands for Power Metal. The shell is brass and the size is 3.5x14. Came with 2.3mm triple-flanged hoops top and bottom. I can tell from the profile of the top hoop that it is not original. It appears that every "Two-way Piccolo" lug has been changed to an aftermarket lug. Tama's lug was very distinctive looking.
$450? No way!! With all the non-original parts, I MIGHT pay $100 tops for it. The majority of Pawn shops I've dealt with don't have any real knowledge with drums, so sometimes it's useless to negotiate with them. Personally, I'd pass on this drum. Hope this info was useful to you.

Mark is so very right! I've owned a couple of Tama piccolos in the past, but this one for reasons Mark has listed, is lucky to fetch $100.00. Stay clear.

Thank you guy so much. I was looking at it and there is a very similar one on eBay for 3300 bucks but what really had me on this one was it had a seam. I knew that couldn’t be right. I’ve done well and been burned on pawn shop buys. Mostly done very very well but this one had me stumped. The 3300 dollar one is a pico bell brass. I was certain those were seamless. O well. Keep on searching.
Tama also made this drum in a bell brass shell, meaning that it was cast and lathed. As such, there was no seam. The standard brass shell drum did, indeed, have a seam. If the pawn shop drum was all original, except for heads of course, I could see paying up to $300 for it. Their asking price of around $450 is just unrealistic when you factor in all the non-original parts.
And, yes, the bell brass drums go for big $$$! There weren't that many made and they are beautiful sounding drums!
