Folks, as far as I know tacton is an eastern German brand. Does it have ties with Sonor?

I found this kit locally (10/12/16/22) and I can buy it for pretty cheap (I geuss around 60$). I'm considering making a special paint project out of it, but first I like to know if these drums have some quality.

Anyone knows? Are these beech shells?

Lugs look Sonor Champion like.

From VDF from an earlier Post, not mine.

"If I am not mistaken Lefima continued on as an independent company for a number of years after the war but were forced into a state planned merger with Trowa, giving rise to Tacton. Many of Lefima's staff escaped to the west and set up a new company, which continues today----much like the history of Sonor. I have a 13" BDP 16 lug parallel drop snare with exactly the same lugs but with flat rims and clipovers badged LEFIMA with Original scripted over it. The shell is not a Trowa or Tacton shell, which were essentially the same in construction over the years----just a slow change in materials. It is a shame to break these up ----presumably the owner thinks that he can realize a higher price for them, this way.

No, Phil, it's not fully correct --- partly yes - private & independent before 1961.

In 1961 last of family LEFIMA's owners Kurt Fischer moved to West, factory was nationalized and continued work under the new brand TACTON to 1966. Further - merge to "TrommelWaren" and full transfer all the equipment to Weissenfels in 1970.

green glass drum, Thanx for quoting me... :)

It's a last Tacton model which made after receive argeement from Sonor on exterier design and hardware. Due to this it's very similar.

All the last models after beginning of 80's had a multylayer birch shells.

But these years were so hard to GDR economic, that you could meet in the one same kit several different shells --- multylayer birch shell or bakelized cellulose from school versions or old beech 3-ply shell with re-ring...

So you have to analyze your shells.

As I can see on your pic both of tom mounts are selfmade by previous owner.

Cheers,

George.

You can be quiet ---Weißenfels never made any diecast parts from plastic --only standard ZAC alloy and brass or steel inserts.

If you want to buy a kit with classic 3-ply beech shells with beech force-rings, you have to looking for kits as on Christian's photo ---with triangle lugs.

But it will be not a 100% guarantee because last producing years Tacton Gmbh have used all of old stocks different parts and shells from their warehouses...

I think that you'll must to find earlier Tacton versions or original Trowa sets.

Cheers,

George.
