TACTON - last created COB snare

Loading...

Hello all,

Now that's the end of my long search of this boy - on saturday I've received a parcel from Ukraine.

It's a TACTON COB snare - last model of the 89-90's with external parallel action throwoff; independent wires tuning. Condition is very good - it needed in a bit of dust cleaning only, no more defects. Mint chromed shell - no rust, no scratch, no dings or blisters.

Size is 14 x 6,5", 8 lugs with M6 thread bolts; hoops are simple modern type, the muffler is not provided - as on all last Weißenfels snares.

Strainer's manage system is the last invention of GDR engineers - the single forged camshaft integrated with lever knob; a served drop springs are hidden into the diecast cheeks.

Sound is pretty good - mighty attack, bright tone, a powerful recoil.

Total cost of deal - $ 46 including shipping (only a small payment to train's conductor - without damned robbery ukrainian post service!). :)

See it on pics below - photo by me and previous owner.

I'm really happy to tears, my friends...

Cheers,

George.

about 5 or 6 years ago I bought the standard strainer version of this drum on ebay U.S. for 45.00. it was odd because it was a 10 lug drum and because of that i got 150.00 for it 2 months later. i'm surprised that they didn't do this one as a ten lug but perhaps they couldn't because of the strainer mechanism. this is a really nice find ,George. i'll bet it is a heavy one and when set up properly is a joy to play.

No troubles - just as Star King (later Tama King Beat), Sonor Signature 580...590.

Thank you, Phil.

Oh... really strange drum you've had. I've never seen Weißenfels 10-lugs snares in Russia, Ukraina & Germany... For west export maybe?

Technically it's not a great problem --- as Sonorlite 588 12-lugs. :)

i have no idea whether Tacton exported to either the U.S. or Canada. i never saw the drums until about 2005. certainly, they were in Cuba and South America. i doubt if business would have been brisk in North America-----too much prejudice, they would have had to dumb down to entry level prices to get any market.

my drum, no doubt arrived ,either with a musician or in the belongings of an emmigrating person or family----maybe as a commercial sample.

it was a really good drum, sturdy, a powerfull projecting drum, with a combination of depth and sensitivity.

Aha, maybe, maybe... There were a lot of different those kinds as an export versions for Scandinavians and Benilux countries--- perhaps were also travelled from there to New World... :)
