Swivomatic Pedal

I had an interesting inquiry recently concerning the construction of the Rogers Swivomatic pedals. The question pertained to the cast aluminum base portion. This inquirer asked if mine had a hole all the way through the tower portion so that if you were looking at the bottom of the base piece you would see a hole at the bottom of the post. This is a feature I was not aware of after all these years. I'm not sure I ever had one of those bases. The pedal I have, which I thought to be from the early 60's, does not have the hole.

I did see a pedal for sale that had the loop in the connecting rod to hold the heel plate in position and it had the hole in the base portion. I thought the loop was a later element verses the earlier pedals in which the rod is secured to the heel with a set screw.

Does anyone here know the period of time when the hole appeared or disappeared from production?

Hi Dan. I have a very early (first) version and it does have the hole thru the base. I never noticed that either. It is a one piece footboard so the heel is attached to the rod via the typical square head drum key set screw.

I have a slightly newer, perhaps mid 60’s two piece and it doesn’t have the hole in the bottom of the plate. The heel plate is attached to the rod via a set screw.

Not sure what you mean by the loop that attaches the rod to the heel plate. Could be that version with the hole was a mixture of parts or rebuilt from parts using an earlier base? Just a guess.

I'm attaching a couple of photos. In these photos you will see that the heel piece is tied to the front of the pedal with a rod that has a loop at the rear. Also, note that this pedal has the hole through the cast aluminum base piece. My pedal does not have the hole in the base piece, but has a straight rod locked into the heel piece with a set screw.

So I'm wondering when these production changes took place. I realize many of these pedals could have had parts changed over the years, but thought someone might now the parts progression as the pedals were manufactured.

Well I have never seen the loop attachment before, nor have I seen the hole in the base plate. All I can say is that Imhave a first gen one piece footboard and it has the hole in the base. The two piece I have is perhaps the second gen and no hole in the base and heel attachment is with a set screw.

It will be interesting to see if someone chimes in that can date the progression of swivo pedals.
