Supreme Drums : Affiliated with Star?

Loading...

Please, could someone tell me if Supreme Drums are affiliated with Star Drums? I couldn't find Supreme listed under Star. Could Supreme be a separate company? I know that Supremes were made in Japan in the sixties but, that's about all. I seem to be going around in circles! Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks.

Hi,

I know the name 'Supreme Drums' - but can't recall it's look.

Please - let us have a look at some pics. The lugs, tom holders, bass drum spurs, pedals, stands (if original) snare drum/ strainer - nearly every detail may tell a story that helps to find a conclusion whether or not it was built by Star.

Hello, Sir!

Thank you for replying!

I don't have a scanner so pictures are impossible. The drums however have gray/black marble skins. Each drum has an oval Supreme badge, about 2 1/8 inches long and 1 1/4 inch high. The word "Supreme" is in red/maroon letters. "made in japan' is on the bottom. A line before and one after, either side of "made in Japan".The badge is in a silver color.Hole through center.

Thank you again for trying to help. I certainly appreciate your efforts.

While I am not a total computer nerd I can assure you that you can easily put pictures on a computer without a scanner. Even if you do not have a digital camera almost every cellphone made in the world has a camera on it where you can email that picture to a house account (yours) then move the picture from that email account to this site. It will take a second to figure out but can easily be done.

I figure if you are on the internet, you more than likely own a cell phone and this would be acceptable for drum pictures, at least what these guys need to see to I.D. em. If you are selling something then you would probably want a top shelf picture to accentuate your wares.

Hope this helps,

Happy Holidays and have a wonderful evening

In this case accurate description of a badge does not describe the origin of the shells.

'Supreme Drums' was neither famous nor a wellknown outstanding good drum company. So we do need facts as I/we mentioned: only the characteristic hardware attributes tell the story!

Over the past year, I've learned a lot thanks to the members of this Forum. I'm still no "expert" on anything, including Supreme Drums. What I do know is that these Star stencils, if tuned properly, still do the job. I use them as well as my Stars. The Stars, done in turquoise sparkle are a bit flashier that the Supremes which are wrapped in CDP. I appreciate both sets.

@Boyon00

Welcome here!

It's great when you still own this drumset (your first, I guess, and brandnew then?).

Pics are more then appreciated! It would help bring light to the darkness of that aera,

especially if you know that it still is in genuine status!

Welcome! It is cool knowing you have had these MIJ drums for 42+ years. If you no longer play them, now might be the time to look for that special young man or woman to donate them to. I restore and donate a kit about every other month. It takes a lot out of, physically, but I do it because I love the instrument. I can't play a lick, but I do what I do because of the love I have for drums. You see, my baby brother was a smokin' drummer, could lay down Bonham smooth as silk, Alex VanHalen, no problem, a little Stewart Copeland or Buddy Rich, a little Art Blakey perhaps? He had a ghost, however, he could not shake. It finally won, I decided that one day, I would again go back to the percussive arts. Last year my then 9 year old son began to show an interest in drums, and there I saw the time was right. I had already been playing hand drums for the past year and half, getting my chops back as I, too, was a player in the early 90s.

Anyway, today my body is wracked, ravaged by too many years of self detrimental activities, and just plain neglect and poor exercise habits. Can you imagine, my form of exercise, for 20ish years, was taking a handful of acid or mushrooms, smoke obscene amounts of pot, drink far too much, and dance all night, to whatever band was playing, and I have seen over 800 Pro shows, let alone all the other music, bars, fields, backyard parties, we were golden, deeply rooted in the music industry and the party scene. "The Untouchables" as it were.

Should you decide it is time to move them on to a younger generation. let me know, I can help you locate the right person, but then again, so can a great local drum teacher. Be purposeful in your search, and if you would be kind enough, would you post some pix of the kit? I would like to see it, to know the specifics of the shells and the rest of the kit. It may be that they could benefit from some of my special "tuning techniques"...they may be drums you never knew you had.

"Ignorance may be overcome through education. Stupidity, however, is a lifelong endeavor." So, educate me, I don't likes bein' ignant...
