Hi everybody,

I am restoring my Ludwig drums and i have a small problem about my snare drum which I think is a supraphonic with 10 imperial lugs and measures 14” X 5” (see my photos).

1. Will re-chroming my snare affect the sound.

2. When I took off the hoops I have found that there were 2 sizes of tension rods 12 of the rods measure 2” and the others measure 2 3/8” both measured from tip to tip . Which is the correct size of tension rods for my snare drum?

2 inch is correct r they same other than length? Re chroming as in triple plate could change the sound for worse or better. i don't know maybe some one here knows that answer gary

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

If you'll do a search here on VDF you'll find a lot of dscussion about the costs / benefits and success of trying to rechrome a Supra. I think many feel that you're better off stripping the remaining chrome and polishing the aluminum (there's at least one beautiful example here on VDF). Or, if you really want chrome just buy a Supra off ebay, or elsewhere, that doesn't have as much of a pitting problem.

I can't really answer the question of sound quality. I had a pitted Supra powder coated and it certainly sounds different than my stock Supra. I also installed tub lugs, single flanged hoops and different heads. Does it sound better or worse, I don't know...just different, and I like it.
