Supraphonic question and random ludwig ?...

Loading...

hello all. i'm new to the forums and have a couple of quick questions i hope you guys could help me find an answer for.

first off:

I have a supraphonic SD that i cannot, for the life of me, find a date stamp for. it has the blue and olive badge with a serial of #2042792. did these not have date stamps that late. any other info on this snare would be appreciated.

secondly:

i'm purchasing a '65 blue sparkle ludwig 3 pc.. 22, 16, 13. im used to having two floor toms. what are the possibilities that i can find a matching 14 or 18 floor tom out there (or any other size floor tom)? does anything like that even exist?

lastly: the kit has a tom mount in the middle of the bd. im going to be using a sd stand for the 13". what should i do about the hole left behind? leave it? close it?

any and all help would be appreciated.

you guys are the best!

-The stamps get wiped off, sometimes, but you can check the serial number on the badge here: http://www.vintagesnaredrums.com/serial_numbers.html. It would appear that you have a late '70's model....probably '79.

-Blue sparkle floor toms in 14 X 14 are occasionally around...and likely command a high price. To find a blue sparkle 1965 14 x 14 floor tom might be a bit more challenging!. To find a 1965 18" floor tom will be likely impossible. I have never seen a 60's 18" floor tom!

-Are we talking about a railmount? I would need to see some pictures to get a better idea about what you're taking about. If it's a railmount, then the spacers can be bolted back on and cover the holes without altering the drum. You're best bet is to not alter the drum in any way.

the few 14s out there do seem to bring the big dollars for the guys wanting the smaller kits. i have only ever seen a handful of 60's 18s and they ring the bell price wise. havent seen one that color either. what about using two 16's and tuning to taste? just an idea

thanks for the info!

the supraphonic looks like its late 70's early 80's.

the kit is this one:

the question was basically, since im thinking of using an SD stand for the 13" what should i do about the hole from the tom srm i will no longer be using? will the sound be affected??

i'll probably end up doing another 16" tom tuned lower if finding a 18" wont happen.

I also have a 16x16 Rogers Holiday tom made in dayton #18371 that i may be able to utilize for the time being and then sell to match the Wig. what might i be able to get for that tom?

It appears that the '65 bass drum has been modified with an updated rack tom mount. I'd just leave it alone. It won't affect the sound as much as choice of heads and muffling (or not) will. You can always put the upper part of the mount i the hole and mount a big old cowbell on the l-arm.

Plugging the hole on an already modified bass drum won't hurt the value much at this point I would think, so do it if you want to.
