Supraphonic lug replacement

Loading...

Hi guys,

I have a 70's Supraphonic 402 snare with a lug that has stripped threads.

Does Ludwig make new imperial lugs and do they fit older snares?

What part of the lug is stripped?

The rod insert or the threaded boss that protrudes through the shell.

Either way.

I have fixes for you.

Sorry.

Yeah, the threaded boss :(

If the boss insert is stripped, simply re-tap the stripped hole with a 10-24 thread tap. (Or a 10-32) I like 10-24.

and replace the screw with a 10-24 or 10-32.

The original threads are 8-32.

You won't need to pre-drill for the 10-24 tap, just go right in.

The screw head will be a bit larger than the the 8-32 as far as looks go.

Back in the day, I threw away many Rogers lugs that I thought were ruined.

They were not.

Re-tap is good.

Great!

I'll give it a try. Thank you!

If that doesn't work (and I bet it will), get an old lug off eBay or here. New Ludwig lugs don't have as crisp or sharp an edge as old ones. Different molds or something.

That happened to me. I tried using plumbers tape on the original screw. Tightened it down but didn't torque it real tight. It's been holding for about 3 years now.
