I have been looking for a COB Supra, but lately I've been seeing a few SuperSensitives for sale. The only time I played one, the snare wasn't set up correctly and it sort of put me off them.So I'm asking any Ludwig gurus - what's your feeling on buying a SS for all around playing? Weren't they designed for orchestral playing? Thanks for your time - it's much appreciated.
What you've said there pretty much sums it up for me, I find SS's too delicate for "everyday use". Like you said, if out of adjustment they can sound "off" But when in adjustment they are something else!
The regular Supras maybe don't get as "crisp" as an SS, but they sure do sound great and the 6 1/2x14 #402 is my first choice favorite due to it's versatility and tone. I've found that they sound great no matter the tuning or head combination.
I have 2 1970's Supra 61/2x14 LudAloy 402's and they're ugly, pitted and rusty monsters that I picked up cheap, but they sound every bit as good as a shiny collectible that more than likely will be delegated to collecting dust on a shelf in a home museum somewhere.
I really can't say enough about these awesome drums.
