Strangest drum size ever?

This is a Dandy floor tom shell, made in Australia, possibly in the 1950's. Nicely made. Lots of glue residue. It's drilled for 9 lugs top and bottom, so forget about finding rims. The lug holes are 2 1/4", so at least I could find those. But the diameter is 15 1/4"!! Yup. Why would anyone make a drum in that size? Did it once have really thick wrap? What am I going to do with it? Any suggestions? :confused:

Since the drum has 9 lugs, I would go for single flange hoops with clips, and as for the diameter, maybe it's a metric size drum.

You know, that is a really clever idea. Excellent lateral thinking. I thought metric - but it's really an odd size for that too.

Some Sonor floor toms used nine lugs (as does my Sonor Phonc Plus 18" floor tom). Maybe the shell you have is an old Sonor or a Sonor-like copy. In the old days, many European drums used non-standard diameters compared to today's drums.

Hi 'strange drum size' I have a Dandy kit, made in Aus. and the floor tom is less than 16" and it has nine lug holes. hope this is some help.

Trout.. on a more useful note.. I googling away on Drouyn as well as Dandy, and came across the site http://trove.nla.gov.au/

and some interesting results popped up that may be useful in your history excerise. Lots of advertisments for both Drouyn as well as Dandy. A quick search gave me
