Strainer I.D.

Loading...

I'm hoping that one of you experts out there can help me identify this particular strainer. My guess is a Gretsch Renown. Unfortunately it's just a guess.

Any and all "words of wisdom" would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your time and your help.

While I`m not sure of the brand name,...It appears to be a stick throw that`s on a drum to large, and it also appears to be assembled incorrectly. The slide should be turned around to make tieing the string easier, and should slide inside the lip of the frame. This one is slideing on top of the lip and probably moves around alot.

Alot of these old strainers were out sourced to other drum makers by the manufacturer.

Nothing I posted is fact.

This one, obviously not a stick throw on this marcher, looks like it slides inside the lip.

That`s strange, It don`t make engineering sense to make the ears on the slide and then put the slide on top of the lip on the frame.

Look at the leedy quick throw, has the ears on the similar slide and lip but slides inside the lips to keep it from rocking back and forth !!

Maybe it`s part of that great Gretsch sound thingy !i

There's no way to know for sure, but Premier, Sonor, and probably other EU makers all knocked off Leedy snare drums back in the 1930's, as they were considered the world standard at the time and American jazz and vaudeville drumming had great influence on Great Britain and Germany. Peruse some Premier catalog pages of their production from around 1930's and you'll see that many of the snares are almost exact copies of Leedy - all the way down to the lugs and angles of the bearing edges.
