The picture is too small. If you can get me a bigger shot, I can tell by the lugs. Star is almost identical to Slingerland Sound Kings. In fact, if you had the Star lugs next to the Slingys, you would be hhard pressed to tell the difference, really. I have both, and the only reason I can tell is because my Slings are shot.

Much better. This is a later, possibly Pearl made one. Is the shell super thin? Can you get a shot of the interior? I saw in one of the pix from the bottom, it looks like a 3 ply. This later shell is super thin, unlike the earlier 3 ply shells. They are a bit thicker and hold up better. The later thin ones are very weak and if you over tension them they will crush under the stress.

Use light weight heads and see if you get a decent tone out of it, otherwise, you have a lower tone that is hard to get used to. I have one that I put an Attack head on and it finally woke up. Trial and error, sometimes these Attacks make the right choice, and this is one of those times. You can get an entire 5 head set for 30 bucks plus shipping, and if you play American Musical against zZounds, they will beat AMS. hehehe.

Yep, it's a Pearl made drum. These type of lugs were used on Crown drums, which were made by Pearl. This style of badge points to Pearl as well.

Dating the drum, however, is much more difficult, so I really couldn't venture a guess any more specific than '65-74. Maybe someone else can. Though the re-rings make me think the drum is an earlier example.

These appear to be 5 ply, maybe 6, all mahogany, no rings. With that badge, they would almost have to be after 74, because the Pearl contract took effect sometime in the 73-74 era. We have some catalogs that show both Pearl and Star made drums on the very same page. See this page for more fun!

In picture #3, we see Star's top of the line Railm And Consollette Mount. In Numbers 1, 2, 4, 5 & 7, we see Star hardware, lugs etc. In number 6, this is all 69-75ish Pearl lugs and Tom Mounts. So, dating this snare is the best I can get you, from 73 or later, due to the thin, oval aluminum badge.
