Steve Maxwells Drums

Loading...

Steve relocated his ship from downtown Chicago to Naperville, I just came back from visiting his new store, its drum heaven, to much to even discuss with one visit, plan on gong back next week and looking at all his cymbals, that could take hours, he has Buddy Rich's actual drum set on display the last set he used before he died, nice big NOT FOR SALE sign posted. LOL!!!!

That is on my "to-do" list within the next couple of years hopefully. That & The Chicago Drum Show........oh yes - Maxwell's New York location too for sure.

I don't even have dreams of being anywhere close to having what he has for a collection. But, I can relate when he says "not for sale." I would not part with my Vintage Gretsch kit for pretty well any amount of money.....within reason of course.

I live locally and really want to check it out but I know I'd just end up drooling in my dreams of what I'd wish I could buy.

next time any of you go there.

two things.

1. give his 24" copper/wood Slingy kick drum a hit.

2. give his cadillac green Gretsch snare a hit.

i promise you..you will not be the same afterwards.

Yes........the Gretsch drums are a must for me when&if I get there. I was knocking around on my 58 Gold Sparkle (5.514) snare tonight...calfhide batter....and if Mr. Maxwell's Cadi Green drum sounds or feels or looks as nice as my drum that would be good. I have my PWAM Renowns set up in the drum room right now but tomorrow the 58 Gretsch kit goes back up...I like my Purewoods but nothing compares to my Vintage 20/12/14 kit - especially with the old Zildjian cymbals.

If I had a chance to buy a Cadillac Green bop sizes kit (Vintage) I would NOT turn it down.

I'm really looking forward to going to his shop(s) & I think I'll have to take a large stack of $20's & $50's......a couple-a-inches at least haha.

It's my understanding that Buddy Rich's last set that he played prior to his death was the set that Joe McSweeny of Eames drums gave him. That set was a restored Slingerland Radio King set that is now in the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, DC.

I'm sure Buddy had more than one set of drums,so I'm pretty sure a couple of people have them and are calling them his last set. I would love to visit Maxwells place to see and drool over most everything there.
