Star Tiger Pearl Craigslist score! Rawr!! Last viewed: 4 hours ago

Hey Guys,

Found this on Craigslist locally at a Pawn Shop (in which the owner is a drummer, so I stop by there lots anyway). These were just too unique to pass up.

13/16/22 with matching 14" snare. All 3-ply with re-rings. The shells and wrap are all in great shape. Everything is all original. It came with everything you see pictured for $250. It came with a vintage style snare stand (that looked nickel)-similar to the way the Hamilton snare stands today look. I gave that to my good buddy (and fellow forum member) nailfoxx for his "finders fee". He's the one that sent me the email about these. Thanks buddy! I substituted a Yamaha snare stand I had laying around for the photos.

I thought $250 was a good deal considering:

A) The matching snare was present

B) Great condition; all original parts. 8 lug snare, floor tom and bass drum.

C) Useable (if not re-sellable) "extras"

D) The bass drum hoops are not only wood, but both of the inlays are present and intact! Doesn't it always seem like a rare finish wrap notoriously has one or both of the inlays missing? I got lucky on this one!

The last pic is them in the daylight, just loaded up in the car!

What is the correct term for this wrap? Tiger Pearl? Gold Onyx?

I can't wait to clean these up and play them! I wanted to share my score with all of my VDF friends.

V

You hit it good this time vyacheslav! Very cool indeed, and especially so for the price, which is right in the pocket for MIJ acquisitions. Let us know how they sound, but we can see they look great!

Sorry, but I don't know the name of the pearl.

Thanks Dan! These will be fun to tune up and play!

Incidentally, the hi-hat cymbals that came with it were "Camber II-Made In West Germany". My first "real" hi-hats were Camber II, but those were gold in color with red ink stamps. These are silver in color with blue ink stamps. Never seen that before. They actually sound pretty tasty. I won't confuse them for my New Beats, but certainly useable.

Drummerjohn333, I know you'll want to chime in about those Cambers LOL! LoLoLoLo

The other cymbal is an Avanti AV 7000 16" Thin Crash (bronze colored with black ink stamp-Made In Germany) that doesn't sound half bad!

Really nice kit, and in such great condition !. You certainly had a horseshoe in you pocket that day ;) The finish on your kit would be called either Gold Agate, or Gold Onyx..

Congrats and hope you Enjoy them ;)

Hi guys!

Away from home for work and no internet. Just thought I would stop in and take a peek.....on my phone.

The Camber IIs - yeah very entry level. I had a whole set of those new in the mid 80s. Scored a single CII hihat bottom in a lot of cymbals. Used as a top with the right bottom it don't sound too bad......but two of those (a pair) is just too much entry level in the mix!

This Star kit...I have one of these too - all disassembled &cleaned up but needing heads ....one of these days!

I think it is just called Red (or whatever color) Onyx. I have seen it in some Star catalog somewhere.

Eager to hear the report on the sound. Mine are thin shells with no rerings - sorta strange.

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

Seen, yes, but not commented due to lack of time.

Almost correct. Star catalogues name it 'Gold Agate Pearl'.

This is my real fav finish - the one I would go weak although I don't have further room to store another drumset in.

A real rare and phantastic bird!

Cheers, Ralf
