Hi!
Does anyone know what kind of wood there is in these snaredrums?
It says "Laminated 9-ply compressed shell and hardwood reinforcing rings".
Thanks!

Star used to manufacture shells with different woods, depending on the time when it was produced.
Who is 'it' when you write: 'it says'?
Can you post, please, some pics of that snare (from inside and outside as well)?

Hi!
I have a picture of it, but it´s from a page on the net.
Can I publish (commercial)? Don´t want to get sued!

Hi,
The wooden Star drums I have seen have all been made from lauan. But maple was used for there reinforcing rings http://www.tamadrum.co.jp/anniversary/expansion.php?cat_id=5&now=11, on the drums that had reinforcing rings, that is. I haven't seen any of those up close though. If you could post a pic of inside the shell I bet you'd get a definite answer!
Just as a further note, I was interested to find the term "lauan" actually refers to over seventy species of woods with a wide and varying degree of properties, some as soft as basswood, while others are harder than white oak. The stability of the the old Tama shells I have seen has been excellent, without any warpage, and free from any delamination. And if it has hasn't happened after forty years or so, I doubt it will!

Anyway Conny, it's a nice drum you have there. I'd hang on to that one!
All the best!
That is one very sweet looking snare. I would imagine the sound is fantastic! Is this a heavy, thick shell, or a lighter 3 ply? Either way, it is very nice.
It´s a VERY thick shell and one of the best sounding snares I have!
It has been painted inside (black), but I can see the "patterns" from the wood and it´s probably mahogany.
Merry Christmas everyone!
