STAR snare green satin rewrap/cut/detail

Loading...

So, last week I got that STAR remodeled kit with the TAMA ArtStar lugs and a strange bluesparkle/vinyl rewrap that was badly bubbling (was too thin for the stretching.)

I ordered some sheets of a nice green satin flame wrap from Drummaker.com (one of my favorite spots on the net for shopping). I completely overhauled the snare this past weekend- gave it snare beds (had none), polished the chrome, gave it 20 new tension lug nuts, sanded the top and bottom bearing edges and then re-wrapped it. Played it out last night and it sings nicely. Now I`ll do the other three drums this coming week- alot of fun and very relaxing.

Nicely done!Yes Sir

Now you need a COS Star snare to go with it. Those should be easy enough to find there. And if you do find one, try the Fyberskin 3 FA on the batter, it controls all the ringiness of the shell. I have tried 8 different heads and was about to resign to the fact it was just one of theose drums that you had to learn to control the sweet spot, then this head came along at a smokin' deal while I was buying other goodies for some ither project. I grabbed oine for like half price, and tried it originally on a thin 3 ply, thinking it might bring up a nice calf-like sound. On that drum it just killed it altogether. Then I looked at the Star and had the idea to replace the Ambassador, and viola, that was the head for this shell, hands down.

BTW, I have only seen this COS snare with either the SoundKings, or the Tear Drops, and either will work to match up with this kit. Let's see those others!

Really nice finish, OsakaBop. But green ....Hmmmm

It appears that the snare stand is a Star's? (Although I can't recall that tilter section.Hmmmm)

I knew it would be slightly controversial- that color choice. I fell in love with that color a few years ago after playing a Yamaha Beech Custom in Japanese beetle green laquer- just thought it was the coolest color. So, with this I wanted something psychedelic and retro- so with all that together this is what we got Guitar Dude Man

Here are photos of this mornings work with just the bass drum to finish tomorrow.

At least Star offered Satin Flame wraps in this era. Maye not that color...but offered none the less. Why is it none of the old MIJ stuff, and even into the Taiwan era did not offer green anything? There is very little, if anthing, offered in green.

Wow, you did a great job !!

I like those old Stars. I collect Imperialstar snares & some Stars as well. I have a acrylic Star that I am fond of. I'm waiting for the day I can find an 11 lug Tama reasonably, but I suppose I'll have to wait a long time for that.

As for the "controversial" color...I don't give a tinkers damn what Joe Blow thinks about my stuff. I like it, if you like it...that is all that matters.

Cheers, Dave
